
Step Ridge/Knockanroe Loop
Located in the Silvermines this amazing hike can be done in 2 different ways (Knockanroe loop only or Knockanroe Loop and Step Ridge). On a clear day you have amazing views of Keeper Hill, Lough Derg, Galtee Mountains and many more parts of Tipperary.

Parking:
Google Maps: “Knockanroe Car Park”.Be careful driving as road is narrow up to the carpark but there are plenty of places to pull in.

Trail: Gravel trail for majority
Knockanroe Loop with Step Ridge: 10.5km
Difficulty: Moderate/Hard
Trail: Gravel trail on Loop/ Muddy and rocky on Step Ridge

Sunset
From March to September sunset starts to fall behind Step Ridge when viewed from on top of “Cardiac” Hill. This is one of the most amazing views.Morning
When there is low fog over the cooler months the view above the fog on this hike is amazing. -
Start at the entrance closest to the “Welcome to Knockanroe Woods” sign
Take the first left and continue following the road till you come to a Y junction.
Go right on the uphill trail and continue until you pass 2 boulders & tunnel of trees
Once passed, Step Ridge should be on your left and “Cardiac Hill” on your right.
Go left to go up Step Ridge or turn right to finish the Knockanroe Loop
If you turned left, Step Ridge is a 3km out and back muddy trail
If you turned right, continue to follow the gravel trail to bring you back to the car park
